Case Study: Numotion Website Migration
Seamless Transition to Liquid Web Hosting
Numotion is a leading provider of mobility solutions for individuals with disabilities. When Numotion’s website redesign was ready for deployment, they needed a partner that could guide them through the migration.
Intrepid and our partner Eyepax led Numotion’s migration to Liquid Web, managing 700+ redirects and bridging the gap between a fresh design and a complex hosting environment. Through custom Apache scripts and innovative local testing, we achieved a flawless transition that protected SEO equity with no downtime.
Challenge
Numotion partnered with a third-party agency to redesign its primary website, numotion.com. However, when it came time to deploy these changes to the new Liquid Web hosting environment, the agency wasn’t comfortable with the migration process. As Intrepid and EyePax had helped Numotion with a subdomain migration in the past, they knew our technical abilities and expertise could help see them through this project.
It required careful coordination to handle a redesigned site, manage over 700 URL redirections, maintain security standards, prevent downtime, and overcome challenges such as previous hosting permission issues and a lack of dummy/placeholder domains from Liquid Web.
In addition, an SSL certification delay loomed, and the entire migration needed to be completed quickly without burdening the client with excessive follow-ups.
Strategy
Intrepid Digital and web development team Eyepax partnered to lead the migration, showcasing the teams’ technical prowess to deliver a flawless transition. Here’s how:
- Eyepax connected directly with Liquid Web to configure environments adhering to the latest security standards. They set up cPanel accounts to streamline future migrations and management, making the process more efficient and secure.
- When Liquid Web did not provide dummy domains for testing, Eyepax innovated by pointing a local virtual host to the new environment’s IP address, allowing thorough pre-live testing without disruptions.
- The third-party agency supplied over 700 redirection requests.
- Eyepax developed custom scripts to implement these via Apache rules, avoiding any heavy load on the WordPress system. This was completed in just 30 minutes, followed by rigorous testing using additional custom scripts. They also identified and resolved an issue where a shared link from the third-party agency was resulting in 404 errors.
- Altogether, the project managed a series of technical steps and validation checkpoints required to transition the site from QA to the live domain, including DNS updates, backups, and post-launch testing.
The entire process was completed with zero downtime, transforming the QA website into the production environment once all testing was complete.
Post-Migration Support: Intrepid guided the third-party design agency on accessing Liquid Web, creating accounts for them to handle future updates independently.
Results
The migration was a success, and numotion.com now runs seamlessly on Liquid Web.
- The site experienced zero downtime during the transition, and all functionalities—including forms, emails, and redirections—were validated and operational.
- Numotion’s redesigned website is more secure, performant, and easier to manage, supporting future growth.
- Because of the project’s efficiency, Numotion can focus on its core business without ongoing involvement.
Through this project, Intrepid and Eyepax proved we can handle complex migrations with precision, innovation, and minimal client disruption, solidifying their partnership with Numotion.
Bret Barczak, Chief Marketing Officer at Numotion, provided the following feedback:
"Just wanted to say THANK YOU for you and the EyePax team stepping up to manage the Liquid Web deployment for us for numotion.com. It was a bit of an unusual and unexpected circumstance, but your willingness to quickly take it on and your ability to manage the process with another agency involved was excellent. We very much appreciate you and your team."
