Taylor Farms is North America’s leading producer of salads and healthy fresh foods. Serving markets across the continent, Taylor Farms has a US website in English and a website for Canadian customers in both French and English. However, the sites were not optimized for international SEO and were causing confusion for users. Taylor Farms tasked Intrepid Digital with optimizing their international experience.

Challenge

Search engines were consistently displaying listings for the US website above listings for the Canadian website to Canadian users. This resulted in potentially confusing user experiences because Canadians were not seeing their bi-lingual packaging nor the option for French language, and the product locator was set to the US.  We needed to reinforce the signals to Google Canada that the Canadian site was more relevant to Canadian users than the US site.

Strategy

Intrepid’s SEO team implemented hreflang code across the US and Canadian sites, optimizing for the French and English versions of the Canadian site, along with other minor technical fixes. 

This allowed search engines to better differentiate the two sites for their respective markets. Analytics confirmed that this implementation had a significant impact on the sites’ language targeting in search results, and now visitors can see the site appropriate to them, in the language that they prefer.
